Experian
(EXPERIAN.CA in Canada) announced its
purchase of Northern Credit Bureaus, located in Quebec, Canada on September
26, 2006.
Experian now
has access to NCBs database of consumer credit information
and has made the entry into the Canadian market to compete with
Trans Union and
Equifax.
Credit history
or credit report is, in many countries,
a record of an individual's or company's past borrowing and repaying,
including information about late payments and bankruptcy.
Credit scores allege to assess the
likelihood that a borrower will repay a loan or other credit obligation. The
higher the score, the better the credit history and the higher the
probability that the loan will be repaid on time; this theory purports.
When creditors report an excessive number of
late payments, or trouble with collecting payments, a "hit" on the score is
suffered. Similarly, when adverse judgments and collection agency activity
are reported, even bigger "hits" on this score are suffered. Repeated hits
can lower the score and trigger what is called a negative credit rating or
adverse credit history.
Experian plc (LSE:EXPN), formerly
known as CCN Systems, is a global credit information group, with operations

Experian's annual sales were US$3.8 billion (£1.9 billion) and it has net
assets of US$2.107 billion.[citation needed]
The company's largest operation is Experian North America, a consumer credit
reporting agency that is considered one of the big three US credit agencies
along with Equifax and TransUnion. As well as the US, Experian has

Africa, China, Japan and Australia.
Experian's principal lines of business are credit services, marketing

information on people, businesses, motor vehicles and insurance. It also
collects 'lifestyle' data from through on- and off-line surveys. Access to
the much of the information Experian holds is subject to regulatory control,
depending on the regulations in each country it operates.[citation needed]
Experian acquired its US credit reporting business from TRW in 1995. Its
databases contain credit information on 215 million people in the United
States and 450 million vehicles, including title and registration data. It
provides address information for more than 20 billion promotional mail items
to more than 100 million households every year.[
